My viewing habits: Jumped around a lot Thursday night. Caught the end of the IUPUI-Ohio State game. IUPUI was playing way over its head and an upset loomed but as soon as Ohio State decided to assert itself, it was over. Jon Diebler has some big baskets and wide-body freshman Jared Sullinger dominated inside for 40 points. I couldn’t settle on Georgetown-Temple or Xavier-Butler. Both games ended up as tight contests. Temple looked like the nationally ranked team they were supposed to be and ended up with a 68-65 victory that will bode well in March. The Owls get solid inside play from Lavoy Allen and sometimes spectacular guard play from Juan Fernandez (he had the equivalent of a soccer back-tap pass for a layup Thursday night) but the key is guard Ramone Moore, who scored a career-high 30. When he’s scoring, the Owls are a much better team. Xavier-Butler was a rock fight. X played outstanding defense but never put the Bulldogs away completely yet managed to prevail 51-49.. Butler point guard Ronald Nored is not having the best of seasons, he missed two free throws with the score tied with 32.2 seconds left then fouled Xavier’s Mark Lyons, who made the two free throws for the winning points. Butler (4-4) went over 13 minutes without a field goal in the first half. X is still finding its way offensive and had their own problems. That’s why it was close at the end.
