A new nickname: I slipped up yesterday, using the wrong nickname for Central Florida. UCF is just the Knights now, officially. As far as Sully’s Court is concerned, however, UCF will be the Jordanaires from now on. You can hear them clearly on this just-right-for-season recording. Meanwhile, the Jordanaires, nationally ranked at No. 24, are on Amherst Wednesday night to play reeling UMass.
Coach K: Genetics can be undeniable at times and if you allow me some license, I would say Mike Krzyzewski is a direct descendant of Bobby Knight since he played for him at West Point. After Duke’s 98-72 victory over Elon Monday night, Coach K now has 879 victories, tied for second with Dean Smith behind the all-time leader Knight at 902.
Surprising scores, amazing margins Jacksonville 71, Florida 68: For the Gators, this comes on the heels of upsetting Kansas State Saturday. Tough team to read.
Northwestern 92, St. Francis of New York 61: The Wildcats put down the hammer at MSG, just like they should, for their ninth straight without a loss. They play St. John’s tonight in the watered-down Holiday Festival final. Fairfield 67, Vermont 59: Seven in a row for the Stags and their coach, ex-BC assistant Ed Cooley.
Virginia 50 Norfolk State 49: This is five in a row for the WallyWonderWalkers, but it took a tip-in of a missed free throw 4.8 seconds left against a 1-8 team. Syracuse 97, Morgan State 55: Didn’t think the Bears would win, but didn’t think they’d lose by 42 either. Coastal Carolina 125, Thomas More 70: Who’s next? Catherine of Aragon? Cliff Ellis can do better than this. This Thomas More College is located in Ohio and it’s the third Division 3 opponent this season for Coastal.
